IAP-MEC is a pan-India organization dedicated to the integrated development of pediatric medical education. IAP-MEC was founded on February 06, 2021 as an affiliate unit of Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) during CIAP Pedicon 2021, the national conference of IAP, in Mumbai. IAP-MEC has its roots in the erstwhile Heads of Departments Cell (HOD Cell) of IAP and seeks to enlarge on its scope to cover the entirety of pediatric medical education.
IAP-MEC was born in response to the need for a wholesome approach to address the emerging challenges in the field of medical education. After the union government opened up the professional education sector in the early 1990, India has witnessed exponential growth of medical education in the last three decades. Today the country has 542 medical colleges and 64 stand alone PG Institutes whose qualifications are recognized by Medical Council of India (MCI). There are numerous institutions offering Diplomate of National Board (DNB) and other courses too. Large numbers of people study or teach at these institutions.

It is both an honour and a privilege to serve as the Chairperson of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics – Medical Education Chapter (IAP-MEC). I extend my heartfelt greetings to every educator, clinician, researcher, and postgraduate trainee who shares our collective commitment to advancing pediatric medical education.
Our journey as a chapter is one worth remembering. What began as the HOD Cell, a modest gathering of heads of departments exchanging ideas on teaching and training, gradually grew into something far more ambitious. Under the visionary leadership of Dr. Santosh Soans, National President of IAP in 2018, this cell was reimagined and formally evolved into the Medical Education Chapter we know today. Since that pivotal moment, successive chairpersons, together with their Office Bearers and Executive Board members, have worked tirelessly year after year to shape, strengthen, and expand this chapter into the vibrant academic community it now represents. Every milestone we celebrate today stands on the foundation they built.
To develop plans for integration of Pediatric knowledge with basic sciences and other clinical disciplines.
To encourage & promote educational research activities, innovations & publications in the field of Pediatrics.
To develop systems of assessment for Pediatric UG / PG / Fellowship courses in line with competency based education.
To aid in Policy Development regarding medical education to Universities, Institutions, Governmental and non-Governmental Organization.
